Alcohol, sugar, biofuels and biochemicals

Cristanol (Cristal Union and Blétanol) commissioned SNC-Lavalin with owner assistance and ECPM for the company's new bioethanol and alcohol production unit destined for the industrial and food service sectors. Raw materials, namely beetroot and wheat, are processed to produce 3.5 million hectolitres per year. The budget for the building of the two-phase facility totalled €271 000 000. Work carried out included as follows: costing, structure work, master plan, administrative files, 3D drawings, tender package, work supervision and organisation of commissioning operations.

BENP, a subsidiary of Tereos, commissioned SNC-Lavalin with project management responsibilities which included engineering studies, incorporation of process workshops, project oversight, as well as the construction and commissioning of an ethanol plant at Lillebonne with an annual production capacity of 250 million litres. The plant included all facilities required to prepare raw materials, and produce and store the end product. Ethanol produced at the plant will be used as a fuel additive in concentrations varying from 5% to 15%, and extending up to 85% in E85 fuel. Tereos previously commissioned SNC Lavalin to manage the construction of an ethanol production plant with an annual capacity of 300 million litres on the company's site at Origny.

SNC-Lavalin was awarded the construction of facilities associated with the esterification unit onsite at Grand-Couronne. Company teams were responsible for engineering the entire operation, including exterior works, civil engineering, buildings, utilities, processes and storage of liquids. SNC Lavalin had previously completed identical projects for the same client on sites at Nogent, Montoir and Bassens.

Repsol YPF commissioned SNC-Lavalin with the detailed engineering of the pipeline operated by Cartagena-Puertollano Distillates. The project entailed not only detailed engineering but also procurement management. Repsol YPF intends to build pumping stations from the Cartagena-Puertollano Distillates pipelines to supply refined products, including petrol, diesel and jet fuel, to the region.

Industrial platform in white biotechnology – BioDémo

BioDémo, a subsidiary of ARD, has commissioned SNC-Lavalin to build a pilot plant for the production of succinic acid, a parent compound which plays a major role in chemical and biochemical processes. The plant will have a production capacity of 2000 tonnes per year and requires investment in the amount of € 21 million.

Procéthol 2G commissioned SNC-Lavalin with a project management contract which included preliminary studies and construction of a pilot, second generation biofuel production unit at the Bazancourt-Pomacle agro-industrial facility.
