SNC-Lavalin Pharma is the Group division specialising in projects for the pharmaceutical and biotechnical industry. The division designs, studies and carries out projects ranging from the production of active ingredients to galenic shaping. Project management and turnkey solutions are offered through one or other of five centres of competence located in Antwerp, Barcelona, Brussels, Lyon and Paris. Each location is home to a team of technology experts, dedicated project managers, as well as validation and qualification engineers skilled in GMP compliance and regulatory requirements.

Genzyme plant, Lyon

SNC-Lavalin Pharma was commissioned to study and oversee the creation of a new pharmaceutical production plant some 30 200 m² in area. Comprising a mix of production, storage, laboratory and office space, the project involved ‘basis of design\' work for the building, as well as processes and utilities for a new thymoglobulin production facility. The primary challenge in this undertaking valued at €107 million was to incorporate an industrial installation into an urban area.

Flamel pharmaceutical production plant

Flamel Technologies commissioned SNC-Lavalin Pharma with the turnkey construction of a new drug production plant on the company\'s premises at Pessac. The project involved carrying out all requisite studies (preliminary design, detailed design, detailed engineering), building the new plant, and assuring design qualification. To complete basic and detailed engineering studies, and then build and commission the plant in less than 14 months, it was necessary to establish detailed planning schedules early on, monitor progress closely and institute remedial action as required.

GlaxoSmithKline - Wavre

SNC-Lavalin completed an ambitious project, in Wavre (Belgium), for GSK Biologicals in the form of an 11 0000 m² building designed to house 9000 m² of dedicated analysis and quality control laboratory space, as well as offices, conference rooms, a library, two levels of underground parking, and a power generating station. SNC-Lavalin was charged with utilities engineering, HVAC, electricity, procurement, construction management, as well as project management and oversight.

SNC-Lavalin was further commissioned to manage the construction of Building ST03 Saint Amand (France), worksite operations, the commissioning and validation of a freeze-dryer, as well as two automated production lines fitted with containment technology.
